Britax Römer Seed Papilio - an opinion about the carrycot as well as an overall summary..?

I would like an expert opinion about the Britax Römer Seed Papilio - its carrycot part, but also the overall functionality.

Hello there!

The Seed Papilio, a Danish model now belonging under Britax-Römer, is a pushchair I owned, and thus I can honestly say that this is, driveability- and quality-wise one of the best pushchairs I ever owned, tried, look at. I know it seems like a bold opinion to have, but this is how I felt about it - and I work with prams and pushchairs, so that is why I can, IMHO, tell. Apart from the nice foldability of the chassis, I found it beautiful - in a specific, unique way. Overall, I met about 3 on the street through all the years, two of them abroad (Switzerland, Sweden) - meaning it's a design piece that not everybody will want or like because tastes vary greatly from mum to mum. Also, it's not a cheap model. The quality of the magnesium-alloy chassis is also incredible, and I must say, we could pass through pretty much anything, me pushing with only one hand. The rubber wheels with the same width and the same distance in the front and in the rear help the pushing very much. Their size is good, and the rubber is high-quality as well.

Carrycot-wise, it is huge and spacious, even though a little more shallow than some other types. I don't take it as a negative, because I feel like it's enough, but some people could mind it. Surely it will protect the baby well-enough, the fabrics are thickly padded, and quality is great there too. Anyway, on those colder days, you will need a good footmuff nonetheless.

If I should pick some downsides, I would probably focus your attention to two points: 1) the canopy - it's on the smaller side, which not everybody accepts, even though 's quite angled and close to the backrest meaning it shades quite well, and during the summer days' naps I anyway used a sunshade on all my pushchairs... and 2), the handlebar can be adjusted only in 2 positions, good for any average-height parent, but those extremely tall could be too tall for it (I am 176 and used it in the higher position, but I could push the Papilio with the lower position no problem as well).

The seat unit was, just as the rest of the pushchair, design-specific, but my sons loved it. It is maybe narrower but ok even for a taller, older toddler. It is also quite deep, the sitting surface, so don't put a baby in it - under 6 months of age, I would use an insert (sold separately), that would make the surface flat for a baby. Or just stick with the carrycot until then.

Overall, for me, the Papilio is a fantastic, high-quality, but desinb-wise very special stroller model. It could even take 3 kids at the same time and was still ok to maneuver and without any breakage. I really loved that, how sturdy and great it is. It is not a lightweight model, but it's not heavy either. I can recommend it. Not many people own it, but those who do will be happy with it, I am sure.

Your -very berry- Eli.
