The Oyster Zero plus Oyster carrycot for a January baby? Is it a good option even for winter?

Hello.

I need your advice, please. Although I’ve read a lot of feedback and reviews, I am still not sure which stroller to get. Therefore, your help and opinion will be appreciated. 🙂 🙂 🙂

Now, I am almost decided for the Oyster Zero stroller. For the first six months, I am planning to get a fitting carrycot second-hand. Is the Oyster carrycot suitable even for January baby? Oyster Zero reviews suggest that the carrycot's hood won’t offer enough protection against the wind and that the carrycot is more suitable for summer babies... I am unsure how ‘bad’ the hood really is and whether adding a sunshade or some extra visor would solve the problem.

Due to baby’s regular doctor appointments, 2 hours’ drive away, we will use our car a lot, so the car seat (we will probably get a Cybex) needs to be compatible with the chassis. I am looking for a smart and practical solution for the first six months when the carrycot is necessary. Later, I would love to enjoy the super Oyster stroller (according to reviews) for as long as possible. I don’t like the idea of wasting money on a full-sized pram that will have to be replaced by a stroller a few months later, anyway. However, if the Oyster carrycot is simply not good, I would appreciate you pointing me in the right direction. 🙂

First, I liked the idea of getting the Cybex Priam for my newborn and then, in summer, swap it for the Oyster. However, I don’t want to complicate it too much, especially if there is a way how to make the Oyster carrycot more winter-ready.

I hope it all makes sense.
Thank you 🙂

Hello!

I like the way you are thinking, and I believe you have chosen well. I wouldn’t worry about the carrycot too much. Even if the hood is too open, the solution is easy - a cover or a visor will sort it out, absolutely. There are plenty of options to choose from! And, what is more (and more important), a footmuff protects the baby most, anyway, so choosing a good one that you'll also put in the carrycot makes a lot of difference. Getting a Dooky or a Diono visor and high quality, Lodger-type footmuff should be enough. So, I think the Oyster Zero stroller + a carrycot is an excellent choice for the use you are describing, absolutely.

Another winter option could also be the Baby Jogger City Mini GT2.

Your -very berry- Eli.

Now, this is your place to ask. I'm listening.
