Nuna Mixx Next

The soft-suspension, padded full-size single

The Nuna Mixx Next is the third generation of the popular, full-size Nuna Mixx stroller, released in 2020. It looks very similar to the second, Nuna Mixx 2 version, but there are two big differences to notice with the Mixx Next. First would be the enhanced - much softer suspension in the rear part of the frame, making the ride with the Mixx Next smoother, even on uneven surfaces or snow. The second change is a more compact fold, during which the rear wheels fold themselves automatically under and forward, making the whole package whopping 20 cm shorter.

Still a relatively lightweight full-size stroller or stroller system, the Mixx Next is quite specific thanks to the L-shaped chassis with a curved handlebar. The chassis folds even with the seat unit attached, no matter the direction. The shopping basket is large and accessible and features a dividing partition for better internal organization.

The Mixx Next is suitable right from birth - even with the seat only. It is reversible and reclines fully - and what is more, the integrated side flaps allow you to create a carrycot-like environment for your newborn. The high weight capacity also makes it possible to push a larger toddler in the same seat. There is a magnetic thermo-insulating pocket in the back of the seat, and the mesh backrest ideal for summer is already an almost iconic feature of the Nuna strollers. The hood is equipped with the Dream Drape sunshade as well as a stitched inside, making it not only well-protective but also very elegant. The double ventilation system of the hood consists of the mesh viewing window and the mesh parts of the extending panel.

The ring adapters for the Nuna Pipa car seats are included with the Mixx Next. They also went through an upgrade - the fold right with the stroller (but are not compatible with other, Maxi-Cosi-type of car seat attachments). You can, however, purchase another type of adapters optionally. A full-featured carrycot with a reversible mattress and extra internal pocket is also available for newborn babies (or you can get the Mixx Next in a pre-made combination set). The carrycot protects the baby not only with the canopy but with the Dream Drape sunshade as well. There are many optional accessories to complement your Mixx 2 with - a footmuff, a cup holder, or a child tray are only some of them...

Quite sturdy, comfortable

4
  • Sturdy
  • Good quality material
  • Comes with legcover and raincover
  • Easy to close
  • Heavy
  • Buckles on the seat tend to twist and turn which means a few more precious seconds when installing baby in the seat
  • Back cushion tends to go down when putting baby in the seat (like it does not stick well to the mesh behind)

I have been using the Nuna Mixx Next for 2 years - first 6 months with the carry-cot. Very easy to switch from the carry-cot to the regular seat. Seat can go both ways (but you would need to put front facing to close the buggy). Closing it is super easy (compared to other strollers which makes you think you are really dumb to not understand how to close them in the store...). Quite sturdy, comfortable, can easily have the seat in a different angle (good for a child who likes to see quite straight), huge basket. Quite heavy and takes up a lot of boot space in the car.

It's a good all rounder

4
  • Good suspension
  • Seat can be layed flat
  • Huge basket
  • Beautiful design
  • Small enough when folded
  • Fabric is waterproof even in extreme pouring rain (tested;)) so no cover really needed
  • Could be lighter
  • Suspension is good but not enough for extreme terrain with a small baby
  • Sometimes hard to unfold

It's a really good stroller. I absolutely love the design, there aren't many other strollers available on the market that look this good. Besides that it's a good all rounder, good suspension, small enough when folded, you can lay it flat so suitable for small babies too, it's easy to use, the basket is huuugee.

  • None

A perfect stroller system with a very nice suspension system. My DD loves it and feels comfy in it. We like it a lot, mainly the 'air-conditioning', as I call it ;-) - the child doesn't get all sweaty on hot summer days. I recommend it as it has a very nice price-performance ratio. It is very well designed, with smart details - and I don't even know what I would make better on it.

  • almost lay-flat seat unit
  • seat is high up on the chassis
  • summer ventilation - seat AND the canopy
  • comfy padding, fully washable seat fabrics
  • good push (we live in the city)
  • bassinet and car seat option
  • dream drapes on all parts
  • heavy-ish
  • not the greatest for heavy terrain (it gets a bit noisy)
  • short leg rest
  • the fold is easy to do, but the protruding wheels make it bulky - best when you take off the wheels if your car boot is not large

The all-season seat with mesh for the summer is a genius invention. We use it so much when it's warm outside. The padding around it is nice and comfy; my daughter feels very cozy in the stroller. I also love the nice push, even though it's not the best on heavier terrain. The harness without retreading is simple to operate, but I had to buy a new footmuff (my old didn't work with this).

  • Comfort of use
  • Newborn-friendliness
  • Design
  • Wheels
  • Price
  • Fold with the wheels out

I was deciding between the Vista and the Mixx Next, and I am not sorry for how I chose. It has its downsides, but the overall performance feels comfy, and my baby is happy in it, which is the most important. I only recommend going for the hard carrycot, the newborn leg-rest-up configuration of the seat looks a bit weird to me, and it's not a 100% lay flat. I will need a compact stroller to add to it in a few months, however - to make myself our car trips easier.

Great right from the start

I love it. So good to push! Great right from the start.

I think I expected more

3

I think I expected more. Quieter wheels, more spacious seat, less bulky fold... for that really high price. It's a nice pram, but not for the whole pushchair period (you will need something more spacious for a toddler), and that is not balanced with the price.

Your questions about the Nuna Mixx Next

1)

Can any other Nuna brand stroller seats be used with the Mixx frame? I have an older model and the seat just isn’t comfortable for my baby, it’s like there isn’t enough structure and she looks like she’s sliding down when she is sitting in the more upright positions.

Hey, Rachel,

It used to be so that you could, with the U-shaped (Maxi-Cosi/Cybex) adapters, attach a Maxi-Cosi / Cybex / Joie / Recaro / Kiddy / Clek Liing car seats. Unfortunately, they stopped selling those adapters, trying to get more Nuna car seats sold, I guess. You can either try to find the Mixx - Maxi-Cosi adapters in classifieds or on eBay, or you could opt for the reclinable Nuna car seat perhaps - I don't see any other options for your situations vs. the Mixx frame.

Hi,

My baby is 4 months old, and we are thinking of transitioning from the bassinet (which she does not like for extended periods, i.e. more than 20-30min) to the pushchair. Is the Nuna Mixx Next pushchair ok to use in a recliner position for a baby that age?

Hey, Anafe,

Yes, if you keep the seat fully reclined until your child sits by itself, without any help, then yes, it is safe to use the seat unit for a 4 months old in that lie-flat setup, don't worry.

Hi!

How do you adjust the top adjusting buckles for the mesh seat so it’s not uncomfortable for my baby? I’ve set it to the very top and that is right under his head when he lays down. And when I adjust it any lower it sits right behind his shoulders which is also uncomfortable.. is there a trick?

Hi, Viv,

Well, no, there isn't, at least I don't know about it. The recommended belts' buckles height shout be just above the child's shoulders - so not too high, definitely not under the head, and not too low, not so low that is behind the shoulder blades. My recommendation is to gi just over the shoulders, there is should not be too uncomfortable.

Can a toddler seat fit into the Nuna Mixx Next?

Hi, Rose,

I am not sure what you mean. The Mixx Next has a seat unit, which is meant for toddlers. It is not huge, so perhaps up to 2, 2.5 years, it can fit your child comfortably. Apart from that, a car seat or a carrycot can fit on the frame (a car seat needs adaptors). Only a 0+ car seat - capsule style fits the frame, nothing larger will fit. No other click-on accessories work with the Mixx Next apart from the capsule, the seat unit and the bassinet.

Would the original Nuna Arra car seat fit the Nuna Mixx Next stroller?

Hey there, Lisa,

With the adapters, yes, the original, first ARRA can be attached to the Mixx Next, as the attachment system is the same.

My Nuna Mixx canopy folds from stage 2 to 5 without pushing down on the lever whereas folding it completely needs the lever pushed. Is it supposed to?

Hiya,

The canopy should not require any pushing of anything to be closed nor open. I am attaching a page from the Nuna Mixx Next manual and even there, it is stated you should just push and pull it. Try checking if anything is not stuck in the mechanism, or you may try to oil it (without the fabric near the oil though), otherwise only contacting the manufacturer's customer service or the distributor is a solution, as there might be a problem.

Do you know if there is a new Nuna Mixx Next coming soon as we have 4 more months until we need the stroller or should we buy now?

Hiya, James,

Nuna did not provide any information about releasing something new (like a Nuna Mixx Next 2 or so), so I don't think in the very near future there will be a new one. Most probably next year (but not on the 1st of January) there might be, but I would not wait that many months for a new pram, to be honest. And there is no guarantee the Next Nuna Mixx will be better, so if you are happy with the size and features of the pram (for me, the frame is a bit too loose and the seat a bit small, though that is purely my opinion here), go on and get your pram now.

The buckle that is covered by the crotch pad is way too tight! We tried adjusting the shoulders to loosen it but I don’t know what we’re doing wrong. He is only 20 pounds at 19 months and only about 35 inches. Any ideas?? It’s cutting into his little thighs and he is a tiny boy for his age. Can’t imagine a 50 pound kid.

Hi, Ari,

The weight capacities are way overstated, with reversible strollers that is even worse than normal. What I would do here is to remove the pad on the crotch strap (even if by force), and see if there's a bit more space and/or even a clip to prolong it.

Last (but not a safe) thing moms do is not to use the harness... but of course that is not an ideal solution.

Not much else you can do, I am pretty sure you won't fit a large toddler in here, so perhaps it will be usable for those 2-2.5 years of age.

When walking with this stroller, the handle is loose and is very wobbly after only using it three times. Do you know if there’s a way to tighten so it doesn’t move from side to side and to make it more sturdy overall? I’ve looked but I must be missing something since I can’t just use a screwdriver.

Hi, April,

Unfortunately, this frame is made only with bolts, not screws, and not as well at that. Super wobbly after three walks, I would definitely make a complaint to the shop, as that should not be happening, such a quick loosening. It is also the reason I don't like this model as much, it is technically not-so-well made. Definitely the shops or the brand's customer service should be your next step.

I’ve heard some reviews about the footrest being awkward or uncomfortable for some older toddlers - but can’t picture how or why. Do you have any further advice on this area of the pram?

Hey there, Ruby,

The "problem" with the Mixx Next pram for older toddlers is the seat that is just too small. I will get to the foot/leg rest area, too, but the whole is a bit narrow, the canopy just over the backrest, and not the leg rest - it is simply short. For a small baby, it is just fine, but as the child grows, you cannot have it upward as it will be hurting the kid, possibly, as it will end at about half the calf, pushing into the calf. That is when you normally put the leg rest down and the child uses the plastic footrest underneath to rest its feet, but that one is a bit far down, so the child unable to use the leg rest can't reach the footrest yet and its feet are dangling.

All of this is no huge problem, of course, and yes, the dangling feet don't bother every child, just that is probably what the reviews complained about. I myself am not into this stroller much, it feels nicely padded and pretty, but a bit bulky and loose in terms of chassis while not roomy enough for that price.
